Investigations into cases of possible academic misconduct should be handled in in a transparent manner while still maintaining a sense of privacy. On the one hand, the media and general public have the right to be informed and the University doesn’t want to leave the impression that it has something to hide. On the other, it is vital that the accused are protected from prejudgments and defaming. People who have witnessed academic misconduct must be able to privately approach the investigative panel. Prof. Dr. Uwe Blaurock, representative for academic self-regulation at the University of Freiburg and Claus Schneggenburger, journalist and former director of the SWR studio  Freiburg will discuss, among other things, this balancing act between privacy and transparency. The event will take place in the series “Freiburg conversations about academic integrity” and will be organized by Prof. Dr. Gisela Riescher, Vice President for Research Integrity, Gender and Diversity Prof. Dr. Kerstin Krieglstein, Dean for the Faculty of Medicine.
