A science career is for many young researchers the absolute dream: Your individual scientific interests are at the center of a well-paying professional position, your contribution to societal, cultural and economic progress, the exchange with like-minded folks from around the world, teaching and researching, talks and publications all promise prestige and yes, perhaps even fame. But is that really true? Aren’t there also risks and burdens associated with deciding to enter academia? How can you balance children and family commitments with your job?
