Needle in a haystack

Scientists have developed a system that makes it easier to locate objects

Freiburg, May 31, 2019

It’s the nightmare of every supplier: they're looking for a part that's hidden in one of thousands of boxes and on one of hundreds of shelves. The microsystems engineer Dr. Fabian Höflinger and the electronics engineer Jérémie Jambet have put an end to the chaos: in the Merlin project, they developed a search system that can precisely locate objects using sensors. A module attached to the box sends signals via Bluetooth, W-LAN and sound waves to a receiver from which the location of the object can be called up using special software. However, potential customers still have to be patient, because the system will not be available on the market for another two years.
