On April 25, 1719 Daniel Defoe's novel The Life and Strange Surprising Adventures of Robinson Crusoe was published in London. Just one year later the text had become a European bestseller and was available in German, French and Dutch translations. The exhibition "300 Years of Robinson Crusoe" in the University Library Freiburg provides an insight into the reception of this classic of modernism through selected editions. Books and illustrations from the Freiburg University Library and the curator's collection will be presented, as will Sandro Jung, Professor of English and Comparative Literature at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics in China and EURIAS Senior Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies.
