Defending abusers?

Source: Section for Canon Law and Church Legal History at the Faculty of Theology

Friedolf Lappen is one of the few ecclesiastical law experts in Germany to have been involved as a lawyer in church criminal proceedings against Catholic priests guilty of sexual abuse. It provides insights into church criminal law, which is currently under discussion: Is the Church too lenient with abusers? Are the procedures really transparent and fair? Wouldn't all priests who have committed crimes have to be automatically released from church service? And what is it like to defend abusers? These questions and more will be addressed in the lecture.
