Refugee crises, terrorism, natural catastrophes – the news feed delivers breaking news at break-neck speed. How do writers react to today’s constant barrage of media stories? How does the literary treatment of global events affect readers’ perceptions? The author Maxi Obexer, along with first-time author Senthuran Varatharaja, will spend some time reflecting on the issues of flight and migration; the playwright Wolfram Lotz deals with issues of colonialism and experience with ‘the other’ in his theaterpiece “The ridiculous darkness” (“Die lächerliche Finsternis”). The podium guests will engage in a conversation with literary scholar Joachim Grage, professor for North Germanic Philology at the University of Freiburg.
