The Institute of Biology III at the University of Freiburg is turning 50. Founded in 1968 by Prof. Dr. Carsten Bresch, it has helped shape the development of molecular genetics, genetic engineering and bioinformatics with important contributions in recent decades. Highlights include the significant participation in the excellence clusters BIOSS Center for Biological Signaling Studies and BrainLinks-BrainTools, the “Trinational Study Program Biotechnology” with the European Campus partner universities in Basel, Strasbourg and Karlsruhe or that of Nobel laureate Prof. Dr. Georges Koehler initiated and still existing cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology. At the anniversary symposium, the Institute's three departments - Molecular Genetics and Bioinformatics, Immunology, Neurobiology and Technology - will present selected research projects.
