The widest possible frequency spectrum with maximum dynamics and minimal noise when recording and reproducing sound: These are the three “hard” criteria for High Fidelity, Hi-fi for short. But Hi-fi is much more than that: for some, a sign of good taste and the technical prerequisite for “right” hearing, for the other life-determining passion, the goal of escape from the world and a place of self-discovery and leisure. The exhibition “High Fidelity - The Dream of Perfect Pitch” at the Center for Popular Culture and Music (ZPKM) at the University of Freiburg shows historical devices and sound recordings of the past 60 years and questions their technical peculiarities as well as social and aesthetic aspects. She completes the seminar “History, Technique, Aesthetics of Hi-fi” by Dr. Knut Holtsträter, where the students prepared and implemented the exhibition. The exhibition can be viewed until the opening hours of the ZPKM library until mid-February 2019: Monday to Friday, 10 am to 1 pm, Tuesday and additionally Thursday, 2 pm to 6 pm.
