Al-Jahiz, Ibn Jinni, Abd al-Qahir al-Jurjani, Avicenna and many other thinkers helped form the field of Islamic studies between 800 and 1200 AD. An international conference at the University of Freiburg pursues the meaning of the philosophy of language in Arabic culture at that time.
