Mozart’ Legacy

The Unichor Freiburg e.V. will sing the Requiem to end the winter term on January 26 and 27, 2019

Freiburg, Jan 22, 2019

There is hardly another piece in the history of music that is entwined in so many legends as the Requiem by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Its creation alone gave rise to it: There is an account of a “black messenger” who commissioned the Mass for the Dead. It was to be Mozart’s last piece, who died at the age of 35 while working on it - his pupil Franz Xaver Süßmayr completed the composition. At the end of the semester the Unichor Freiburg e.V. under the direction of church music lecturer Eduard Wagner will perform the Requiem in d KV 626 in Süßmayr's version. The choir will be supported as soloists by soprano Alies Züpfle, alto Julia Hilpert, tenor Steffen Schwendner and baritone Lorenz Kauffer. The “Freie Unichor Orchester,” which was formed especially for the concert and consists of musicians from the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and students from the Freiburg Musikhochschule, will also play Mozart's Symphony in G Minor KV 183. The short introductory lecture to the two works will be given by Prof. Dr. Meinrad Walter.
