The latest student protests in Baden-Württemberg have centered on tuition fees. But these student movements rarely move beyond campus events. Together with the political science student body, the Colloquium politicum will examine student protest movements during a podium discussion. Are these “elite” students just seeking to defend their privileged life? During the discussion, Martin Holl, youth advisor for the Federation of German Trade Unions in Freiburg, David Koch, the co-organizer for the “Bildungsstreik 2009” (education strike), as well as activists from the initiative “Holm bleibt” (“Holm is staying”) will address what a student movement has to do in order to move beyond campus borders to gain relevance for society as a whole.
