Conference on September 24-26, 2018 and an evening concert on songs and poems from the 16th to 19th centuries

Freiburg, Sep 11, 2018

The junior conference "Popularity: Song and Poetry from the 16th to the 19th Century" at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) explores the question of why poems and songs became popular. The guiding question of the conference led by Hannah Berner, Frédérique Renno and Sarah Ruppe is: What does popularity mean and how does it emerge in the area of tension between the three co-ordinates of production, mediality and reception? Part of the conference is also the concert "Lieder am, auf und unter dem Tisch" (“Songs at, on and under the table”), in which the ensembles "Quadrophon" and "pian e forte", conducted by Uwe Schlottermüller, present music from the 16th and 17th centuries.
