“At the heart of the German thriller series ‘Biohackers’ is medical student Mia. A new student, she immediately immerses herself in the world of biohackers. Mia wants to get to the bottom of a family secret and in the process uncovers an illegal, private genetic research project. Ultimately, Mia must decide whether to complete her personal mission without regard to losses, or whether to choose her new friends and thus the future.” This is the information that the internet entertainment service Netflix has so far publicly disclosed about its new production, whose plot is located in Freiburg and at the University of Freiburg.

The film team of the production company Claussen & Putz from Munich is shooting some scenes by director Christian Ditter at the University of Freiburg: in the Biology Department, the University Library (UB) and the college buildings on the main campus. The crew will be staying in Freiburg from July 5-11, 2019. The shooting is organized in such a way that neither courses nor the availability of study space will be restricted - at the UB, for example, filming will occur at night. In addition, the crew will also shoot some scenes at other locations in Freiburg, but the majority will be shot in a film studio in Munich. “Biohackers” is slated to be broadcast on Netflix in more than 190 countries in the spring of 2020.
