The Center for Key Qualifications (ZfS) at the University of Freiburg is using the new teaching program to look at current issues in society and encourage a critical examination of them. Online enrollment for bachelor and law students will begin on April 3, 2019. The remaining places, for which all students enrolled at the university can take courses, will be available starting April 23, 2019.

How can people act morally in a digital world, and which principles of media ethics can help in dealing with social platforms? Can a critical approach to smartphone usage strengthen moral courage? How does digitalization affect the media and publishing industry? The new courses “Media ethics in the face of digital change,” “Responsibility in civil society,” “Smartphones in search of analogue values” or “Digital media development and production using the publishing industry as an example” address these issues.

The teaching program also focuses on the topic of sustainability: How do consumer styles influence the environment, climate and social situations, and what role do consumers play in this? What are the minimum requirements for a consistent sustainability concept and how can it be implemented? What occupational fields are there in this area? The courses “Service Learning – Engaging, Learning, Reflecting in Three Areas of Application,” “Corporate Sustainability Management,” “Professional Field Sustainability,” and “Economy and Responsibility for Tomorrow” offer answers and approaches.

How does learning work and how can students organize themselves to achieve their goals? In which fields of activity and profession can personal strengths be brought to bear? These and similar questions are examined in the courses “Learning and working techniques - psychological basics and application,” “Self-organization and time management,” “Study and career planning on the basis of competencies” as well as “(My) perspectives after graduation - occupational fields, entry routes and application tips.”

Furthermore, the teaching program in the fields of management, media, communication, IT and foreign languages offers students the opportunity to benefit from the experience of the lecturers in practice and to exchange ideas with fellow students from other disciplines.
