Brexit, migration, debt-ridden countries - the European Union are currently facing major challenges this year. While some are placing their hopes in European unity, others do not see the promises of democracy, prosperity and security fulfilled. Will the European elections on May 26, 2019 be a turning point for the future of the EU? Axel Veiel, Paris correspondent for the Badische Zeitung from 2004 to 2018, will give a lecture entitled “European Insights and (Dis)agreements. Macron and Merkel’s European Policy: Is the Franco-German Motor Sputtering?" In the lecture series "Correspondent Talk. European Unity or National Egotism? Four Correspondents, Four Perspectives at Four Locations in Freiburg,” the correspondents from the Badische Zeitung in Brussels, Warsaw, Rome and Paris will report, comment and analyze the mood and political processes in the respective countries.
