How increased tourism is shaping today’s cities

For some years now, cities and major metropolises have been recording growth in the number of tourists visiting them and in the number of overnight stays. This veritable boom in urban tourism is creating pressure on the city's use, which is particularly visible in inner-city areas. In connection with tourism, gentrification and various forms of economic use often become effective in urban areas. The consequences are rising prices in the hotel and catering sectors, a shortage of affordable living space and impaired quality of life for locals and tourists alike. Nevertheless, tourism is also seen as an opportunity to redesign urban spaces and increase their attractiveness. Part of the conference "Touristification of Urban Spaces" will be a public discussion on how to deal with current and future challenges of tourism and urban development from different perspectives.
